In preparation for the Janai Purnima festival, health camps will be established at five locations along the route to the sacred Gosainkunda pilgrimage site to ensure the well-being of the devotees. Located at an altitude of 14,100 feet above sea level, the holy site of Gosainkunda will see a continuation of the health camp initiative, as organized by the Himalaya Rescue Association.
The health camps will be set up at five key points: the Shree Temple Square in Dhunche, Mini Gosainkunda, Cholangpati, Lauribinayak, and at the Gosainkunda site itself. These camps will provide primary health screenings for pilgrims traveling to Gosainkunda. Sanjiv DM, Chairperson of the Gosainkunda Area Development Committee, confirmed that the health check-ups would be conducted as needed at these locations.
Local agencies will play specific roles in the health camp initiative: the District Red Cross and Ayurvedic institutions will manage the camp at Mini Gosainkunda, the Nepalese Army will oversee Cholangpati, the Gosainkunda Rural Municipality will handle Lauribinayak, and the Himalaya Rescue Association will operate the camp at Gosainkunda, equipped with oxygen supplies.
A seven-member team of doctors from the Himalaya Rescue Association has already arrived at Lauribinayak to provide medical support, according to the festival management committee.
The Gosainkunda pilgrimage is traditionally marked by thousands of devotees who, according to belief, gather to offer prayers and take a holy dip at the sacred Neelkanth Lake during Janai Purnima. The festival is a significant event for the pilgrims, who travel despite various challenges to participate in the ritual.
