Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Expected in Several Regions: Meteorological Department Warns of Potential Landslides

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Weather Forecast Division has issued a warning of heavy rainfall in several regions of Nepal for today. According to the department, most areas of the country will experience generally cloudy to overcast conditions.

The regions of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rain. At the same time, a few areas in Sudurpaschim Province may also experience similar conditions. Furthermore, heavy rain is expected in some parts of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, as well as other regions.

There is a high possibility of weighty rainfall in isolated areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces. Additionally, a few locations in Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces may encounter strong winds, raising concerns about localized damage.

The forecast for tonight indicates continued cloudy to overcast skies across the country, with thunderstorms and light to moderate rain in many areas, particularly in Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces. Heavy rainfall is also expected in a few locations in these regions, as well as in one or two areas of Karnali Province. Sudurpaschim may experience strong winds.

The department has cautioned against potential landslides in areas prone to heavy and very heavy rain, as well as strong winds. The risk of soil erosion and landslides could endanger communities, disrupt construction work near rivers, and impact daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism, mountaineering, as well as road and air transportation.

In light of these conditions, the department urges residents and authorities in affected areas to take necessary precautions to minimize the risks and ensure safety.
