Heavy Rainfall Alert Issued for the Next Three Days Across Nepal

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Meteorological Forecasting Division has issued a warning of heavy rainfall across various parts of Nepal over the next three days. The division has also cautioned that some areas may experience very heavy rainfall, especially during nighttime.

Meteorologist Sanjib Adhikari stated that the entire country is currently under the influence of monsoon winds. The monsoon trough is positioned around its average location, leading to the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall in several regions. “There is a possibility of nighttime rainfall, although continuous rain is not expected,” Adhikari mentioned. “Tonight, the weather will generally be cloudy across the country, with chances of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in some areas of all provinces.”

According to the forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in a few places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces, and in one or two locations in the other provinces. Currently, light to moderate rain is occurring in some places in Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati provinces, and light rain is reported in one or two places in the remaining provinces.

On Tuesday afternoon, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy across the country. There will be light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning in some places in all provinces. By Tuesday night, the weather will stay mostly cloudy, with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms expected in a few places in Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, and in some areas of the other provinces. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in one or two places in Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces.

Wednesday is expected to be generally cloudy nationwide. During the day, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning is likely in some places in Madhesh province and a few places in the remaining provinces. Heavy rainfall is anticipated in one or two places in Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces. By Wednesday night, the weather will remain mostly cloudy, with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms forecasted for a few places in Madhesh, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, and some areas of the other provinces. Heavy rainfall is possible in one or two locations in Koshi, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces.

In the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning is expected in some places in all provinces. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in a few locations in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces, and in one or two places in the other provinces. The Meteorological Forecasting Division has urged residents in these areas to remain vigilant against potential monsoon-related hazards, such as landslides, floods, and soil erosion. The division also warned of possible disruptions to daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism, mountaineering, road, and air transport due to the anticipated weather conditions, and advised taking necessary precautions.
