Due to three consecutive days of continuous rainfall, the water levels in the Kaligandaki and Myagdi rivers have significantly risen. Residents living near these rivers are advised to take caution.
The District Administration Office of Myagdi has urged those collecting firewood and sand near the riverbanks to be vigilant. The rising water levels have put the coastal areas of Mustang, Myagdi, and Parbat at high risk. Chief District Officer Laxman Dhakal has informed that people should avoid going to the riverbanks to retrieve wood and other items during this period.
Floods and landslides have caused damage to electric poles, disrupting power services in two municipalities. According to the Tanahun Distribution Center of the Nepal Electricity Authority, some wards of Myagde Rural Municipality and Shuklagandaki Municipality are facing power outages. The construction of a bridge over the Buldi River, which connects wards 1 and 3 of Byas Municipality, was halted when electric poles were swept away by the river. However, after repairs, the power service has been restored, as informed by Bijayraj Regmi, the head of the Tanahun Distribution Center.
Seven electric poles fell due to landslides in Mauri Odhar of Myagde Rural Municipality-6, leading to power outages in the two municipalities. “More than 15 electric poles have been damaged in Myagde, Shuklagandaki, Byas, and Aanbukhaireni Rural Municipalities,” said Regmi. “Employees have been deployed to restore power services since this morning, but the continuous rainfall is making it difficult to carry out the work.”
Tourists planning to travel through the affected regions are advised to take alternative routes. The disruption caused by the rising water levels and landslides poses a significant risk to travelers. If you were planning to use these roads, please consider alternative methods to ensure your safety.
This situation has created obstacles for tourists, highlighting the need for caution and alternative planning. The natural beauty and attractions of Mustang, Myagdi, and Parbat remain, but safety must come first. Stay informed and choose safe travel options during this period of adverse weather.
