Continuous rainfall since last night has significantly impacted air travel across the country. The persistent rain has led to reduced visibility, causing disruptions to both domestic and international flights from Tribhuvan International Airport, according to airport officials.
Airport Manager Jagannath Niroula reported that as of Tuesday morning, a Turkish Airlines flight bound for Lucknow, India, and an Air India flight for Varanasi were diverted. International flights that were holding in the sky have now landed, while domestic flights have also been affected, with some scheduled flights being postponed.
Niroula mentioned that operations at the airport have resumed regularly as the rain has stopped, leading to improved visibility. Although there were some delays in domestic flights, regular service has now been restored.
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology forecasts that the monsoon winds are currently active across the country. Due to the northern position of the monsoon trough, there is a high likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming days.
Heavy rainfall is expected in one or two locations in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Sudurpashchim provinces.
