The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Weather Forecast Division has predicted very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in certain areas of the country over the next 24 hours.
According to the division, there is a high likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall in one or two places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces this afternoon. Furthermore, heavy rainfall is expected in some areas of almost all provinces, with light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in many places.
The division also indicates a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in some locations across all provinces. Specifically, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces might experience extremely heavy rainfall in one or two spots. The forecast anticipates increased rainfall during nighttime, particularly in one or two places in Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
In meteorological terms, rainfall exceeding 200 millimeters in 24 hours is classified as extremely heavy, while rainfall between 100 to 200 millimeters is considered very heavy. Such intense rainfall poses significant risks.
The division has warned that continuous heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the next few days could lead to flooding and landslides in affected areas. It has urged residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
A special bulletin issued by the division indicates that the monsoon low-pressure line has moved closer to Nepal, causing the monsoon to remain active until Wednesday. Given the high risk during this period, it has also advised preparedness for potential emergency responses.
