Heavy Rainfall Warning Issued Across Nepal, High Alert for Floods and Landslides

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall across various parts of Nepal on Tuesday and Wednesday. In response, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has issued a high alert, advising the public to exercise extreme caution.

Due to the heightened risk of floods and landslides, the NDRRMA has requested a halt to night bus operations in the affected districts, citing the difficulty of assessing flood and landslide risks during nighttime hours. Residents are advised to avoid travel unless necessary and to remain vigilant, especially those living near riverbanks.

The authority has also cautioned against collecting firewood or fishing in rivers during the floods to prevent any mishaps.

The districts identified as highly risky include:

  1. Eastern Region: Taplejung, Panchthar, Sankhuwasabha, Tehrathum
  2. Central Region: Rasuwa, Sindhupalchok, Chitwan, Dolakha, Dhading, Nuwakot
  3. Western Region: Myagdi, Baglung, Kaski, Parbat, Syangja, Tanahun, East Nawalparasi, Lamjung, Gorkha
  4. Mid-Western and Far-Western Regions: Kapilvastu, Rupandehi, Palpa, Gulmi, Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Pyuthan, Arghakhanchi, Rukum West, Kailali, Kanchanpur, Dadeldhura, Doti, Baitadi

Residents in these areas are urged to stay informed about weather updates and follow the guidelines issued by local authorities to ensure their safety during this period of intense weather activity.
