A helicopter crash in a hospital in southwestern Turkey on Sunday resulted in the death of four people, including two pilots, a doctor, and a staff member, as confirmed by the provincial governor.
Idris Akbiyik, the governor of Mugla province, reported that the helicopter collided with the fourth floor of the hospital during takeoff and crashed to the ground. “There was heavy fog,” Akbiyik stated, adding that authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
Footage broadcasted by NTV television showed the helicopter, which had taken off from the roof of the hospital, heading toward the city of Antalya. The crash appears to have occurred due to low visibility caused by fog. According to Turkish media, the helicopter plunged into the fog just minutes after takeoff and crashed into an empty field near the hospital.
This tragic incident follows another helicopter crash two weeks ago in southwestern Isparta province, where two military helicopters collided during a training exercise, resulting in the deaths of six soldiers. The Ministry of Defense had not disclosed the cause of that crash at the time.
