Hetauda Cyclists Promote Domestic Tourism Through Lamjung Ride

A team of 50 cyclists from Hetauda has traveled to Lamjung to promote domestic tourism through cycling while encouraging greater interest in Nepal’s natural, religious and cultural attractions. The Himalayan Riders Society, Hetauda, joined the first Tour de Lamjung organized by the Lamjung Cycling Association. The promotional journey brought together cycling enthusiasts from different parts of Nepal and highlighted cycling as an alternative way of discovering tourism destinations. It also provided an opportunity to promote Hetauda and its surrounding attractions to participants from other districts.

475 Cyclists Participate In Tour De Lamjung

According to Society President Raju Thapa Magar, 50 members of the Himalayan Riders Society took part in the cycling event, which attracted around 475 cyclists from different districts. The large participation created a platform for cyclists to connect while supporting the promotion of domestic travel through environmentally friendly and active tourism activities. Participants were able to experience Lamjung’s tourism attractions while travelling through the area by bicycle.

The Hetauda based cyclists also used the event to introduce participants to tourism destinations in and around Hetauda. They encouraged cyclists from across the country to visit the region and explore its natural, religious and historical attractions. The initiative is part of the society’s broader effort to use cycling events to increase awareness of destinations among domestic travelers. Such activities can also help connect lesser known destinations with cycling and adventure enthusiasts.

Ghalegaun And Local Attractions Explored

During the promotional journey, the cyclists visited Besisahar, Ghalegaun and Hamkhola Waterfall, among other attractions in Lamjung. The visits allowed participants to experience the destinations directly while helping draw attention to their tourism potential. Ghalegaun, in particular, remains an important destination for visitors interested in rural landscapes, local culture and mountain views.

The cycling visit also demonstrated how organized rides can bring travellers closer to communities and tourism sites outside major urban centres. By combining physical activity with destination exploration, cycling events can create opportunities to promote nature-based and adventure tourism. Such journeys can also encourage domestic visitors to explore destinations that may receive less attention through conventional tourism campaigns.

Society Expands Cycling Tourism Activities

The Himalayan Riders Society has been working institutionally since 2021 and has used cycling journeys as a means of promoting tourism across Nepal. The organization previously completed a 400 kilometre cycling journey from Rasuwagadhi to Thori and has also taken part in the Mechi Mahakali cycling journey. These long distance activities have helped the society connect different destinations while encouraging cyclists to travel across the country.

The society has also promoted religious and cultural attractions including Gadhimai Temple, Chataradham in Dharan and Someshworgadhi in Chitwan through its cycling activities. Last year, a 46 member team from the organization participated in Tour de Pokhara, continuing its focus on combining cycling with tourism promotion. The group’s activities show an ongoing effort to use cycling networks to introduce domestic travelers to destinations in different parts of Nepal.

Hetauda Destinations Remain A Focus

The society has continued promoting tourism attractions in and around Hetauda, including the 42 foot Krishna statue at Hatiya Jurethum, which it describes as one of the tallest Krishna statues in Asia. Other destinations promoted by the organization include the open sculpture museum at Harnamadi, Churiya Mai, Manakamana Danda and Sukhauli. These sites represent a mix of natural, religious and historical attractions that the society hopes to bring to greater public attention.

The latest Lamjung journey has added another destination to the organization’s continuing cycling based tourism campaign. By participating in major cycling events and visiting attractions directly, the society aims to encourage Nepali travelers to explore more destinations within the country. The initiative also demonstrates the potential of cycling tourism to support destination promotion while encouraging healthier and more environmentally conscious forms of travel.
