High-Level Chinese Delegation Meets Nepal’s Vice President, Emphasizes Bilateral Ties

A delegation led by Bater from the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) paid a courtesy call on Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav on Friday at the Office of the Vice President in Lainchaur. The meeting encompassed a wide array of discussions ranging from enhancing Nepal-China relations to fostering bilateral visits, cooperation in trade, and boosting tourism, as reported by the Vice President’s Secretariat.

During the interaction, Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, also currently serving as Acting President, expressed his delight at the visit of the Chinese delegation to Nepal. He underscored the longstanding and profound ties between China and Nepal, which have been significantly broadened, strengthened, and elevated across various dimensions in recent years.

Highlighting the pivotal role of Nepal-China relations in advancing the development, prosperity, and sustainable peace aspirations of both nations’ citizens, the Vice President emphasized that China has remained a crucial and steadfast development partner for Nepal over the past seven decades.

Looking towards the future, Vice President Yadav expressed hope that China would continue to extend its support to Nepal’s socio-economic progress and the well-being of its citizens even after Nepal’s projected graduation to middle-income and developing country status by 2026.

Regarding economic ties, the Vice President noted that approximately 14 percent of Nepal’s total external trade is with China. He urged further cooperation from the Chinese side to enhance sectors such as vegetable farming, meat products, tea, and herbs production in Nepal.

The Vice President also acknowledged and appreciated recent decisions by the Chinese government, including the exemption of visa fees for Nepali nationals visiting China and the reopening of the Kimathanka-Chentang transit point, which have contributed significantly to strengthening bilateral relations.

The Chinese delegation, in response, assured the Vice President of China’s support for Nepal’s federal republic system and pledged ongoing assistance to Nepal in various sectors in the future. They emphasized their commitment to safeguarding and consolidating the historic relations between Nepal and China.

The Vice President’s Secretariat reported that both sides reiterated their commitment to further solidifying the deep-rooted friendship and cooperation between Nepal and China, marking a new milestone in the enduring bilateral relations.

The visit of the Chinese delegation and the discussions held with Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav underscored the continuing significance and potential for growth in Nepal-China relations, fostering mutual benefits and regional stability.
