Himalayan Rescue Association Nepal Elects New Executive Committee Under Damber Parajuli

The Himalayan Rescue Association Nepal (HRA) has elected a new 11-member executive committee under the leadership of Damber Parajuli. The election process concluded on June 1, with all candidates elected unopposed after a single nomination was filed for each position.

The results were officially announced by the election committee headed by Chief Election Officer Kumar Prasad Ghimire, in accordance with the association’s election procedures.

Key Office Bearers Announced

Under the newly formed executive committee, Damber Parajuli has been elected President of the association. Sushil Krishna Adhikari has been elected Vice-President, while Prayush Neupane will serve as Secretary General. Tul Singh Gurung has been elected Treasurer.

The newly elected committee members include Gyanendra Kumar Shrestha, Bikash Shah Rauniyar, Dr Subhash Dawadi, Nar Bahadur Astani, and Dawa Steven Sherpa.

Institutional Members Also Elected

The association has also elected two institutional representatives to the executive committee. Dr Yadav Adhikari, representing Thamserkhu Trekking Pvt Ltd, and Ganesh Bahadur Neupane, representing Monterosa Treks and Expedition Pvt Ltd, were elected as institutional members.

Election officials stated that the uncontested election reflects consensus among members regarding the association’s future leadership and direction.

Longstanding Contribution to Himalayan Health and Safety

The Himalayan Rescue Association Nepal has played a crucial role in ensuring the health and safety of trekkers, climbers, and tourists visiting Nepal’s mountainous regions for decades.

The organization operates medical and emergency health camps in several high-altitude destinations, including Everest Base Camp and Pheriche in Solukhumbu district, Manang village in Manang district, and Gosaikunda in Rasuwa during the Janai Purnima festival season.

These health facilities provide medical treatment, emergency rescue coordination, altitude sickness awareness, and preventive healthcare services to both domestic and international visitors.

Health Services at Everest Base Camp Since 2003

According to HRA Chief Executive Officer Govinda Basayal, the association has been operating a health camp at Everest Base Camp since 2003. The facility provides healthcare services to climbers, expedition staff, guides, porters, and trekkers during the mountaineering season.

The organization has also maintained medical services in Pheriche since 1973, in Manang village since 1980, and in Gosaikunda since 1997, making it one of Nepal’s most experienced organizations in mountain medicine and high-altitude rescue support.

Tourism and trekking experts consider HRA one of the key institutions supporting Nepal’s mountain tourism industry. Its continued medical presence in remote Himalayan regions has contributed significantly to safer trekking and climbing experiences for visitors from around the world.
