Historic Galkot Durbar Restored to its Former Glory with Nepal Army’s Support

Galkot, a historic landmark nestled in the district of Manang, has been meticulously restored to its original grandeur after extensive renovation efforts spanning a considerable period. Originally constructed during the reign of the powerful Malla dynasty, the Galkot Durbar has been rejuvenated to its former splendor through economic contributions and laborious efforts from the Nepali Army.

The restoration project, conducted under the supervision of the Galkot Municipality Ward No. 23 and spearheaded by Assistant Rathi Jagat Bahadur Poudel, involved the reconstruction of the Galkot Durbar, an iconic symbol of the region’s cultural and historical significance. The initiative aimed to preserve the architectural integrity and revitalize the site as a focal point for social and cultural activities.

“The Nepali Army, through its commitment to enhancing civic engagement and historical preservation, has played a pivotal role in the reconstruction of the Galkot Durbar,” stated Assistant Rathijagat Poudel during the handover ceremony to Galkot Municipality Mayor Bharat Sharma Gaire. He further highlighted the meticulous efforts involved in restoring the intricate details of the Durbar, including traditional window frames, doors made from local timber, and fortified walls that once safeguarded the palace during its historical heyday.

Mayor Gaire expressed gratitude for the collaboration with the Nepali Army, emphasizing that the project not only restores historical landmarks but also promotes local tourism and community pride. “The rejuvenation of Galkot Durbar signifies our commitment to preserving our cultural heritage and offering visitors an authentic glimpse into our rich history,” he affirmed.

The revitalized Galkot Durbar now stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of the Malla dynasty and serves as a beacon for future generations, inviting both domestic and international visitors to experience the allure of its storied past.
