Thrilling Horse Race in Birgunj Revives Ancient Art and Culture

A horse race was organized on Saturday in Nagwa, Ward No. 16 of Birgunj Metropolitan City to help preserve the ancient art and culture of Birgunj. The event aimed to continue a tradition that has existed between Nepal and India since ancient times.

The race featured 16 horse riders from both Nepal and neighboring India, specifically from Motihari and West Champaran districts in Bihar. It was organized by the Brahma Baba Sanchalak Sewa Samiti and the BP Koirala Youth Leadership Forum. Committee Chair Prabhu Chaurasiya stated that the competition also played a significant role in maintaining the longstanding harmony between the two countries.

A large crowd of spectators gathered to witness the race. Chaurasiya said, “The crowd and enthusiasm from the audience have inspired us to continue such events in the coming years.” In the race, the horse of Bichari Yadav from Motihari, India, secured first place and was awarded a cooler machine. The second prize went to the horse of Manager Yadav from Kotwa, also in Motihari. The third prize was won by the horse of Harishankar Singh from Sirsiya, Parsa, Nepal.

Before the event, Janardan Singh Kshetri, Minister for Land Management, Agriculture, and Cooperatives of Madhes Province, inaugurated the program. He said the declining tradition of horse racing is helping foster friendly ties between Nepal and India. Other guests, including Nepali Congress Parsa Vice President Ramnarayan Kurmi and Birgunj Deputy Mayor Imtiyaz Alam, also distributed prizes to the winners.
