The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) Index experienced a significant drop today, falling below the 3,000 mark to close at 2,966.33 points, a decline of 34.47 points or 1.14% from the previous session. This comes after last Thursday’s gain of 43.05 points, where the index had closed just above the 3,000 level at 3,000.81 points.
The trading day was marked by volatility, with the index opening at 3,017.2 points, reaching an intraday high of 3,048.15 points and a low of 2,945.49 points before settling at its closing value.
The Hotel and Tourism Index saw an even sharper decline, closing at 7,407.41 points, down by 348.58 points or 4.49% from the previous session. This follows a gain of 25.16 points last Thursday, where the index had also shown resilience. The index opened today at 7,756 points and fluctuated throughout the day, reaching an intraday high of 7,808.21 points and a low of 7,367.34 points before closing lower.
The steep drop in the Hotel and Tourism Index reflects growing concerns among investors, signaling potential challenges in the sector amidst broader market instability.
