The House of Representatives’ State Affairs and Good Governance Committee has issued a directive to lower airfare rates.
The committee has instructed the government to take action after receiving complaints that airlines have been arbitrarily increasing fares during the crisis caused by excessive rainfall. The heavy rains have led to a transportation crisis, with airlines reportedly exploiting the situation by raising ticket prices.
Committee Chairperson Ramhari Khatiwada said, “Due to a lack of quorum, an official meeting could not be held. However, under the chairperson’s directive, the order has been issued.”
Here is the committee’s official directive:

The committee emphasized that the increased airfares, which were introduced as a result of road blockages caused by floods and landslides, have had a significant impact on the public. It also highlighted that airlines providing domestic flights, which have become a critical alternative for transportation during this adverse situation, are taking undue advantage by arbitrarily raising ticket prices.
The committee’s letter stated, “In these severe and challenging circumstances, the arbitrary hike in airfare by airlines operating domestic flights has caused substantial difficulties for ordinary citizens. Therefore, under the directive of the Honorable Chairperson, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation is requested to take necessary actions to control the airfare rates.”
