House of Representatives Unanimously Passes Archives Preservation (First Amendment) Bill, 2081

Today’s session of the House of Representatives concluded with the unanimous passage of the Archives Preservation (First Amendment) Bill, 2081. The bill, presented by the Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Hit Bahadur Tamang, received widespread support from all members present.

During the session, Minister Tamang highlighted the significance of the amendments proposed in the bill, aimed at modernizing archival practices and preserving Nepal’s historical records in line with international standards. The bill seeks to address current legal gaps and enhance the conservation of archival materials existing in Nepal.

The discussion, which included a comprehensive review by the International Relations and Tourism Committee, focused on the importance of aligning archival legislation with contemporary needs and technological advancements. Members of the committee underscored the necessity of revising the Archives Preservation Act, 2046, to ensure it addresses current socio-legal and technical challenges effectively.

“The government has brought this bill with the objective of making archival legislation more relevant and timely,” stated Minister Tamang during his presentation. He emphasized the role of archives in preserving national heritage and facilitating historical research, essential for promoting Nepal’s cultural identity and attracting scholarly and tourist interest. The House of Representatives is scheduled to convene for further deliberations on related matters on Ashadh 14 at 11 AM.
