Global Aviation Leaders To Discuss Next Era Of Air Travel

The symposium will see industry leaders examining and discussing how artificial intelligence, modern airline retailing, digital identity and new payment solutions are transforming the aviation industry. IATA said the sessions will focus on how such developments can be translated into tangible value for airlines, as well as how they can be leveraged to improve operational efficiency, business performance and resilience in the current environment. Industry leaders from finance, commercial, operations and customer experience functions will share experiences on the innovation already happening in the aviation sector, and identify the areas where challenges still exist and how the industry can accelerate the uptake of new solutions.

IATA’s Interim Director General, Senior Vice President of Corporate Services and CFO Sandrine Le Borgne said, “The potential of emerging technologies and modern systems in airline operations could transform the way we do business and the way passengers travel. We need to harness these innovations to deliver true value to both airlines and passengers.” With that in mind, the symposium will also include sessions dedicated to looking at areas of real-world pain points and challenges impacting airlines and passengers and how the industry can address them. The event will provide delegates with insight into the changing business environment and the opportunities ahead.

Three Key Tracks To Focus On Aviation Transformation

The WFS/WPS agenda will comprise three key tracks Retail and Distribution, Financial Services and Processing, and Passenger Experience and Accessibility. The Retail and Distribution track will comprise sessions on Offers and Orders, experiences from airlines, and the potential of AI to develop more relevant offers and customer experiences. On the Financial Services and Processing front, sessions will comprise financial volatility, risks, costs of payments and the shift from tickets to orders. Both these tracks will enable the industry to come together and understand how they could adapt their systems and operations to meet the changing needs of the business environment.

The Passenger Experience and Accessibility track will comprise sessions focused on the take up of digital identity and biometrics, and improvements in border and baggage processes, and how these can be made easier and more accessible for air travellers. As airports and airlines continue to push for faster processing times to meet rising passenger demand while creating more seamless travel experiences, the sessions will enable a multi-perspective view of how digital technology can be integrated into everyday processes.

China To Take Prominent Role In Symposium

China will be a major focus of the WFS/WPS agenda, as senior Chinese aviation executives share their experiences of one of the fastest growing aviation markets in the world. The sessions will comprise a discussion on the digital innovation, modern airline retailing, Offers and Orders and IATA’s One ID in the Chinese aviation sector. The talks will highlight how these technologies and concepts have been adopted and implemented within one of the world’s largest aviation markets and provide delegates with an insight into China’s experiences with digitisation and modern airline operations.

As an important element of the wider discussion around digitization and innovation in air transport, the China focused sessions will provide an opportunity for industry stakeholders to look at how digital technologies and new commercial concepts can drive growth and development in international aviation, while also enhancing the passenger experience. The event will therefore enable an international perspective on the evolution of airline retailing, finance and passenger experience.

Senior Aviation Executives To Join Event

The symposium will see senior industry representatives from airline, aviation authorities and international organisations, including Stanley Pun, President of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Macao SAR, Fangxing Fu, CFO of China National Aviation Holding Corporation Limited, and Tim Yu, President of Hainan Airlines Holding Co., Ltd. Other notable speakers include Tamur Goudarzi Pour, EVP Strategy and Member of the Executive Committee of Lufthansa Group, Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer of Air India, Julius Thairu, Chief Commercial and Customer Officer of Kenya Airways, and Uku Sarekanno, Deputy Executive Director of Frontex.
