The bodies of those who perished in the recent Saurya Airlines crash will be handed over to their families only after proper identification has been completed, authorities have announced. Given that some of the bodies are severely burned and difficult to identify, DNA testing may be required, which could delay the handover process.
The examination and identification of the bodies are currently being conducted at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj. Hospital Director Dr. Dinesh Kafle stated, “We cannot release the bodies without proper identification. So far, 12 bodies have been examined, and three more are currently undergoing examination. If DNA testing is necessary for those that cannot be immediately identified, it will take approximately two weeks for the results. If DNA testing is not needed, we expect to complete the examination of all bodies by tomorrow evening. Once the procedures are in place, we can start handing over the bodies to the families by the day after tomorrow.”
Dr. Kafle emphasized that experts are handling the situation with the utmost sensitivity and care. The goal is to complete the identification and handover process as swiftly as possible, ensuring that the families can receive their loved ones promptly once all procedures are followed.
The authorities and hospital staff are working tirelessly to expedite the identification process, balancing the need for accuracy with the emotional needs of the grieving families. The commitment to both respect and procedural integrity underscores the handling of this tragic incident.
