The post-mortem and identification process for the 18 victims of the Saurya Airlines plane crash has commenced at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj. Dr. Gopal Prasad Chaudhary, Chief of the Faculty of Forensic Medicine, reported that efforts to establish the identities of the deceased through post-mortem examinations have begun. Each identification process is expected to take approximately four hours.
Due to a shortage of medical personnel, additional doctors from Patan Academy of Health Sciences, Bhaktapur Hospital, Dhulikhel Hospital, and Pokhara have been summoned and are expected to arrive by tomorrow. Dr. Chaudhary assured that all identities would be confirmed within 72 hours using information provided by the victims’ relatives.
Should identification through fingerprints or dental records be inconclusive, DNA testing will be employed, which may take up to two weeks. A 25-member technical team, including doctors and forensic experts, is working diligently to complete the necessary procedures.
The tragic accident occurred on Wednesday morning at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) as the Saurya Airlines flight bound for Pokhara crashed. The hospital is working to expedite the process and return the bodies to the families as swiftly as possible.
