Inauguration of Kausiki Aarti at Kumhbanagari Chataradham, Sunsari

The Barahakshetra Municipality has initiated the Kausiki Aarti at the Kumhbanagari Chataradham, located in Barahakshetra Municipality-1. According to Mayor Ramesh Karki, the Aarti commenced on July 17, 2024, at 6 PM, in line with the municipality’s annual policy and program for the fiscal year 2080/81.

The Aarti, which will take place every Saturday and Sunday evening throughout the month of Shrawan, is conducted at the Durvasaghat area along the banks of the Koshi River at Chataradham. This initiative started with the assistance of the Jagatguru Peeth Chataradham and aims to develop the municipality as a religious tourism destination.

Mayor Karki emphasized that the evening Kausiki Aarti is part of the efforts to enhance religious tourism and the significance of Barahakshetra. While the Aarti is scheduled twice weekly during Saun, there are plans to extend it after September following further discussions.

The Aarti allows religious tourists to participate in an evening ritual after visiting the Barahakshetra Temple, Hanuman Temple, Radha Krishna Temple, Sis Mahal, and Auliya Math.

Held on the steps and platform along the banks of the Saptakoshi River, which is formed by seven Koshi rivers, three priests conduct the Mahaaarti every evening. Previously, the Ganga Aarti was performed by five priests at the Sakra Bhagwati Temple in Saptari’s Chhinnamasta Rural Municipality-3, attracting hundreds of local and visiting devotees.

The Barahakshetra Municipality hopes that the Kausiki Aarti will draw more religious tourists and elevate the spiritual prominence of the region.
