Increase in Blackbuck Population in Khairapur, Gulariya Municipality

The population of blackbucks in Khairapur (Pataha), located in Gulariya Municipality-2, has seen a significant increase. According to the Blackbuck Conservation Office, the number of blackbucks has risen from 197 last year to 224 this year, an addition of 27 blackbucks.

This population growth has been attributed to regular patrolling, effective monitoring, management of grasslands, and the installation and maintenance of wire fencing, as reported by Dipendra Yadav, Chairman of the Blackbuck Management Council.

The conservation efforts began in 1975 (BS 2032) with the establishment of a temporary post for the protection of blackbucks. The initiative was launched in response to the declining population of blackbucks due to attacks by predators such as leopards, wild dogs, and jackals.
