With increasing traffic on the Prithvi Highway and the approaching festival season, the District Administration Office of Dhading has intensified market inspections. On Wednesday evening, during an inspection in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-3, Peace Heaven Restaurant & Resort was fined NPR 20,000.
The inspection team, led by Chief District Officer Suman Ghimire, imposed the fine after discovering uncovered food that had attracted flies, a violation under Sub-clause 1(a) of Clause 39 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2018. The team also warned that repeat offenses could result in stricter legal action.
The inspection team included Deputy Superintendent of Police Deependra Shahi of Dhading District Police, along with Chunamani Puri, the Chief of the Department of Industry and Commerce. They also monitored hotels, resorts, and grocery stores in Adamghat and Malekhu, which fall along the Prithvi Highway. Businesses were made aware of health standards and instructed to follow proper guidelines, according to Yubaraj Aryal, Deputy Chief District Officer and Coordinator of the District Monitoring Committee.
Aryal further explained that increased monitoring efforts were in response to complaints about the sale of substandard goods, price hikes, and poor hygiene practices during the festive season. He emphasized that complaints regarding hotels along the Prithvi Highway overcharging for food and snacks had been particularly common, prompting the intensified inspections.
During festival times, there is a noticeable rise in practices such as charging higher prices, selling expired or low-quality goods, and offering products without proper labeling, leading the authorities to step up their monitoring efforts.
