International Wine Expo Kicks Off in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, China

An international expo aimed at promoting exchange and cooperation in the wine industry commenced on Friday in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, located in Northwest China. Ningxia Hui is renowned as a major wine-producing region in the country.

The 4th China (Ningxia) International Wine Culture and Tourism Expo, organized by the regional government, features participation from 138 wineries and exhibitors representing eight countries and regions, including France, Italy, Spain, and Chile.

The three-day expo, held under the theme “Chinese Wine, A Marvel to the World – Good Wine Originates from Unique Terroir,” includes a wine carnival, competitions, and other activities celebrating the rich wine culture of the region.

During the opening ceremony, John Barker, the Director-General of an international organization, highlighted the significant progress in development and modernization that has occurred at the foot of the Helan Mountains in Ningxia over the past 40 years. He emphasized Ningxia’s impressive performance in international wine competitions and exhibitions, underscoring its emerging reputation as a world-class wine region.

Ningxia’s unique terroir, characterized by abundant sunshine, cold, and dry climate, makes it an ideal location for producing high-quality wine.

As China’s largest wine-producing area, Ningxia is home to 602,000 hectares of vineyards and 261 wineries and grape-producing enterprises. These businesses produced 140 million bottles of wine in 2023 alone.

This expo represents a significant opportunity for Ningxia to showcase its wine culture on a global stage, further solidifying its status as a leading wine region in the world.
