The Madhesh Province government has announced plans to develop tourism infrastructure aimed at encouraging visitors to stay longer in Janakpurdham, a city renowned for its religious, cultural and archaeological heritage. Speaking at the oath-taking and handover ceremony of the newly elected office-bearers of the Shreeram Youth Committee in Janakpurdham, Madhesh Province Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav said the government would prioritize infrastructure development to transform the city into a model tourist destination.
Focus on Heritage and Tourist Facilities
Chief Minister Yadav said Janakpurdham has significant potential as both a religious and tourism destination and stressed the need to upgrade its religious and archaeological heritage sites. He said the provincial government would continue supporting efforts to make Janakpurdham clean, green, organized and tourist-friendly, while improving facilities that can encourage visitors to extend their stay. The government has also allocated the necessary budget to complete the Ram Janaki International Stadium, which is currently under construction, according to the chief minister.
Ram Janaki Marriage Mandap to Be Upgraded
Yadav said work had also moved forward to upgrade the Ram Janaki Marriage Mandap, one of its major attractions, to enhance the city’s appeal to domestic and international visitors. He added that preparations have begun for the construction of a Ramayana Spiritual Park, a project expected to further strengthen its identity as an important center of Ramayana-related religious tourism. The province also plans to further develop and organize the Maha Ganga Aarti, which has increasingly become a popular attraction for visitors to Janakpurdham.
Government Pledges Cleaner and Greener Janakpurdham
The chief minister said Janakpurdham has become more spacious and cleaner compared with the past, but acknowledged that continued efforts are needed to improve the city’s overall environment and tourist experience. He reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at making Janakpurdham cleaner, greener and more visitor-friendly.
Local Organizations Urged to Protect Heritage
Madhesh Province Assembly member Dipendra Thakur highlighted the important role of local clubs and community organizations in protecting Janakpurdham’s historical, religious and archaeological heritage. He called for political differences to be set aside and urged all stakeholders to work together for the city’s development. Thakur also called for special provincial funding to protect and promote an area measuring 52 kattha and 72 dhur, emphasizing that religious, cultural and historical heritage requires collective efforts from government agencies, local organizations and communities.

The programme was chaired by newly elected Shriram Youth Committee President Vijay Kumar Sah. Madhesh Province Assembly member and former provincial minister Birendra Singh, Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor Manoj Kumar Sah and other guests extended their best wishes to the newly elected committee members. The provincial government’s proposed infrastructure projects are expected to strengthen Janakpurdham’s position as a major religious and cultural tourism destination by improving visitor facilities, upgrading heritage attractions and creating reasons for tourists to stay longer in the city.
