The Kanchenjunga Adventure Half Marathon is set to take place, organized by Sirijangha Rural Municipality in Taplejung. The marathon will be held at the base camp of Kanchenjunga, the world’s third-highest mountain.
According to Dr. Chitra Mabo, Vice Chairperson of the rural municipality, the half marathon will be organized from April 25 to 27, 2025, as part of the Sirijangha Festival 2082. The race will be held at an altitude of 4,500 meters above sea level in the Kanchenjunga Base Camp area.
Winners of the marathon will receive cash prizes. The first-place winner will receive NPR 208,586, the second-place winner NPR 108,586, and the third-place winner NPR 85,586, as per the rural municipality’s announcement.
As per the decision of the executive committee, the 24-kilometer marathon route will pass through New Jhoreni, Kasture Danda, Jhande Danda, Sindure Dhunga, Tuplung, Dundudanda, Dhau Chowk, and Bhedi Chowk, ending in Machhewa.
Alongside the marathon, the municipality will also host a mountain cycling event. The organizers expect the event to help study the impacts of climate change in the Himalayan region, provide scenic observation opportunities, and promote adventure trekking trails.
