The Karnali Province government has unveiled its budget of Rs 31.41 billion for the fiscal year 2024/25, aiming to bolster tourism infrastructure and economic growth in the region. The budget, presented by Minister for Finance Mahendra KC in the Provincial Assembly, marks a reduction from the previous year’s Rs 33 billion allocation.
Highlighting the strategic priorities of the budget, Minister KC underscored the province’s commitment to realizing the slogan of ‘Prosperous Karnali, Happy Karnalis’. Notably, Rs 140 million has been earmarked for the development of key tourist destinations, including Rara Lake, Kankrevihar, Bulbule Park, and Syapu Lake. This allocation is part of a broader strategy to enhance tourism facilities and attract more visitors to the region.
In addition, the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forests, and Environment will receive Rs 1.94 billion, with a significant focus on positioning Karnali as a hub for herbal and medicinal plant cultivation. This initiative aims to capitalize on the province’s rich biodiversity and natural resources to promote eco-tourism and sustainable development.
Furthermore, the budget includes provisions for the ‘One District, One Enterprise’ program, aimed at fostering local entrepreneurship and economic diversification. An allocation of Rs 10 million has been designated for infrastructure improvements at Manav Sewa Ashram, underscoring the government’s commitment to social welfare alongside economic development.
The budget also emphasizes the preservation and promotion of Karnali’s cultural heritage, with allocations for language, literature, arts, and culture protection initiatives.
As Karnali Province prepares to implement these ambitious plans, stakeholders are optimistic about the transformative impact on tourism and overall economic prosperity in the region. The government’s proactive measures reflect a concerted effort to harness Karnali’s natural beauty and cultural richness to benefit both residents and visitors alike.
