Kathmandu Metropolitan City Honors Everest Summiteer Chhepa Sherpa

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has honored Chhepa Sherpa, an Everest summiteer, for his remarkable achievement. Ward No. 4 of Kathmandu honored Sherpa for hoisting the ward’s banner atop Mount Everest on Jestha 8.

Chhepa Sherpa, a permanent resident of Ward No. 4, displayed the ward’s flex banner at the summit of Everest. The honor was presented during the closing ceremony of the ward-level running competition.

Ward No. 4 Chairperson Dinesh Maharjan stated, “By raising our ward’s name on the highest peak, Sherpa has elevated the identity of our community, which is a rare and significant opportunity.”

The running competition, held under the theme “Run for a Healthy Life,” featured students, open male and female categories, and veteran groups. According to Ward Secretary Shyam Pandey, the students and veterans over 55 years old competed in a 3-kilometer race, while the open male and female participants ran a 5-kilometer race.

A total of 120 students from 31 schools, including four community schools, participated in the competition. Additionally, 96 participants competed in the open category and 68 in the veteran category.
