Kirat Cultural Building Construction Set to Enhance Temke Maiyung’s Heritage

A ‘Kirat Cultural’ building is being constructed in Paanch Dhore, Lakhark, Temke Maiyung-9, to preserve and promote Kirat traditions. The project, initiated to safeguard Kirat culture and rituals for future generations, is being built with an investment of NPR 80 million from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation.

According to Ward Chairperson Nawaraj Mangpahang, nearly 50% of the construction work has been completed, and the building is expected to be finished within the current fiscal year. Skilled artisans from Kathmandu have been engaged to give the structure a traditional and artistic touch, ensuring that it accurately reflects the Kirat heritage.

The cultural building will serve as a hub for preserving Kirat customs, rituals, attire, and food. It will also provide insights into Kirat traditions and lifestyles. The structure is being built using traditional materials such as stone, lime, and surki (brick dust). Additionally, its windows, doors, pillars, and beams will feature intricate designs that symbolize Kirat culture. The building will display cultural artifacts, including traditional musical instruments such as the Dhol, Jhyamta, Chindo, Dhunuwan, and Murchunga.

To promote tourism in the area, a pond named Paanch dhare Pokhari, along with the Kirateshwar Stone Garden and walking trails, have been developed. Plans are also in place to connect these trails to the larger Mundum Trail, further enhancing the region’s cultural and natural attractions.
