A kite flying competition was organized in Baglung as part of the Dashain celebrations, attracting participants from all age groups, including children, youths, and the elderly. The event took place at the Dhawalagiri Campus ground, under the organization of the Rotaract Club of Baglung.
Rakesh Sharma from Baglung won the competition, receiving a cash prize of NPR 5,555, while Babin Shakya secured second place. A total of 17 participants took part in the event, with the Club presenting gifts to all contestants. The competition also drew kite-flying enthusiasts who joined in the fun outside of the contest.
Saurav KC, president of the Rotaract Club, stated that the “Changa Chet” event was organized to preserve the tradition of kite flying, which is an integral part of Dashain festivities. “It provides entertainment to children and youth while keeping this cultural tradition alive,” he said during the prize distribution ceremony.
KC further highlighted that the practice of flying kites around Dashain has been declining due to rapid urbanization and the lack of open spaces. However, the event offered a moment for participants to celebrate and share joy during the festive season. The kite, symbolizing happiness and joy, remains an important cultural icon during this time of year.
