A photo exhibition titled “Konjyosom Bhardeu” officially opened on Thursday at the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) premises in Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu, offering a compelling visual narrative of the rich religious, cultural, and natural heritage of Bhardeu, Ward No. 5 of Konjyosom Rural Municipality. The exhibition seeks to introduce audiences to one of Nepal’s lesser-known yet culturally significant rural destinations through the powerful medium of photography.
The exhibition has been jointly organized by Konjyosom Rural Municipality–5, Bhardeu, and the Konjyosom Religious Tourism Committee, with the primary objective of promoting religious tourism, cultural preservation, and sustainable rural development. By presenting Bhardeu’s landscapes, sacred sites, and living traditions in visual form, the organizers aim to inspire domestic and international visitors to explore destinations beyond Nepal’s established tourist circuits.

Visual Storytelling of a Living Heritage
The exhibition features a total of 42 photographs, including eight life-size display images, all captured by renowned photographer and tourism campaigner Laxmi Prasad Ngakhusi. The collection vividly portrays Bhardeu’s spiritual environment, scenic terrain, traditional lifestyles, and ritual practices, offering visitors an immersive glimpse into the community’s daily life and cultural depth.

The photographs highlight religious landmarks, village festivals, panoramic hillscapes, and moments of local devotion, reflecting how faith, nature, and culture coexist harmoniously in Bhardeu. Through careful composition and storytelling, the exhibition emphasizes the area’s potential as a destination for religious, cultural, and experiential tourism.
NTB’s Commitment to Destination Promotion
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Sunil Sharma, Officiating Director of the Nepal Tourism Board, underscored NTB’s ongoing collaboration with photographers, local governments, and tourism stakeholders to promote Nepal’s diverse destinations through visual storytelling. He noted that photography plays a crucial role in shaping travel aspirations and introducing hidden destinations to wider audiences.

Sharma also informed attendees about the recent launch of NTB’s digital photography promotion platform, www.photonepal.org. The platform aims to create a dedicated digital space for showcasing Nepal’s tourism destinations through high-quality photography while actively engaging photographers as partners in destination branding and promotion. According to him, initiatives like the Bhardeu exhibition align with NTB’s broader strategy of leveraging digital tools and creative storytelling to strengthen Nepal’s tourism image.
Strong Local Leadership Support
The inaugural event witnessed the participation of key local leaders, reflecting strong community ownership of tourism development initiatives. Among those present were Rajan Ghimire, Vice Chair of Konjyosom Rural Municipality, Bijaya Sightan, Ward Chair of Konjyosom Rural Municipality–Ward No. 5, and Gopilal Singtan, Chair of the Konjyosom Religious Tourism Committee.

The speakers emphasized the importance of community-based tourism and creative promotion in preserving cultural identity while generating economic opportunities at the local level. They expressed confidence that initiatives such as the photo exhibition would help position Bhardeu as an emerging religious and cultural tourism destination while encouraging youth engagement and heritage conservation.
Promoting Lesser-Known Destinations
The Bhardeu Photo Exhibition forms part of NTB’s wider efforts to promote lesser-known and emerging tourism destinations by integrating photography, storytelling, and digital outreach. By focusing on authentic local experiences and community narratives, NTB aims to diversify Nepal’s tourism offerings and distribute tourism benefits more evenly across regions.

Such initiatives are particularly significant for rural municipalities, where tourism can support livelihoods, preserve traditions, and encourage sustainable development without compromising cultural integrity.
