Koshi Province Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki has emphasized that tourism and infrastructure will be key pillars in driving the nation’s prosperity. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the “Tourism Year 2082” declaration event, organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Forest, and Environment in Koshi Province, Chief Minister Karki highlighted the province’s strategic focus on tourism as a major economic driver.
During the event, Karki announced that Koshi Province has officially designated the year 2082 as a “Tourism Year” to attract tourists from neighboring countries, India and China, to boost the national economy. He stressed the significance of the tourism sector in Nepal’s overall GDP and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prioritizing the industry.
“Nepal, as a whole, holds immense potential in tourism. Koshi Province, with its blend of the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest, alongside other mountains, hills, and plains, presents unique opportunities. The province is rich in religious, geographic, cultural, and heritage significance, and the government is working to capitalize on these opportunities. We look forward to the support and collaboration of the private sector in this endeavor,” said Chief Minister Karki.
Bhupendra Rai, Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development, also addressed the event, highlighting the region’s natural beauty, religious sites, and cultural diversity. He pointed out that the government is working to develop infrastructure alongside promoting tourism.
Other notable attendees included Internal Affairs and Law Minister Leela Ballav Adhikari, Social Development Minister Panchakarn Rai, secretaries from various ministries, and Rajendra Raut, President of the Koshi Province Chamber of Commerce and Industry. They collectively emphasized the need for collaboration between the private sector and the government to ensure the success of Tourism Year 2082.
The declaration aims to bolster the region’s tourism industry, fostering economic growth through sustainable development and enhanced infrastructure.
