The Buddhasingh roadway in Tanahu has been completely disrupted for a week due to a landslide at Dhap in Bandipur Rural Municipality-6, severely impacting tourism and local transportation. The landslide, one of several along the roadway, has caused significant disruptions to traffic services, leaving locals and travelers in a challenging situation.
Siddhant Garja Magar, a resident, noted that the landslide at Dhap was so severe that it initially blocked all passage, making it impossible for people to traverse the area. Despite these challenges, this morning, residents joined forces to clear enough debris to create a narrow pathway for pedestrians, temporarily restoring some mobility in the region.
The Buddhasingh roadway, a pride project for Gandaki Province, is crucial as it connects Damauli, the district headquarters of Tanahu, to Ghumaune in Chitwan. It is widely used by residents of Bandipur, Devghat, and Aabukhaireni rural municipalities. Moreover, this road is considered the shortest alternative route linking Gandaki Province to Chitwan and other districts in the Terai region, making it an essential route for both local commuters and tourists.
The disruption on this roadway is particularly concerning for tourism in the region, as the road serves as a critical access point to popular destinations like Bandipur and Devghat. Additionally, with a bridge currently under construction at Ghumaune to connect this road with the Muglin-Narayangadh route on the East-West Highway, the importance of this route is set to increase. The new bridge is expected to reduce travel distance to Narayangadh by around 25 kilometers compared to the traditional Prithvi Highway route.
Given the current situation, travelers planning to use the Buddhasingh roadway are advised to seek alternative routes until the landslide debris is fully cleared and the road is safe for vehicular traffic again.
