Landslides Block Key Road Sections in Gulmi, Impacting Tourism and Transportation

Heavy rainfall last night triggered landslides that have blocked multiple road sections in Gulmi District, disrupting traffic and posing challenges for tourism in the region. The affected areas include the Tamghas-Ridi and Ridi-Wamitaksar road sections, which are part of the vital Madan Bhandari Highway.

Landslides occurred at Goudakot and Birbas in Gulmidarbar Rural Municipality, blocking the Tamghas-Ridi road. Additionally, the Ridi-Khajryang road in Rurukshetra Rural Municipality-1 was obstructed by a landslide at Ratamata, according to the District Police Office in Gulmi. The situation is further complicated by the Ridi-Rudrabeni-Wamitaksar road section, which has been rendered impassable due to the swelling of the Dahare River in Satyavati Rural Municipality-6.

As a result, both long and short-route vehicles traveling from Tamghas and Wamitaksar to Butwal and Kathmandu have been stranded. This has caused significant inconvenience, particularly for tourists who rely on these routes to access key destinations in the region.

Chief District Officer Krishna Prasad Sharma reported that local authorities are working tirelessly to clear the debris and reopen the roads. However, continuous rainfall and recurring mudslides are hindering these efforts.

The roadblocks are a setback for tourism in the Gulmi area, which is known for its cultural and natural attractions, including the historic Ridi Bazaar and Rurukshetra. Tourists planning to visit these sites are advised to check road conditions in advance and consider alternative routes where possible.

Travelers heading to or from Tamghas, Wamitaksar, and surrounding areas may need to take alternative routes via Palpa or other nearby districts until the roads are cleared. This situation highlights the importance of monitoring weather conditions and being prepared for potential travel disruptions during the monsoon season.

Authorities are urging tourists and locals alike to exercise caution and stay informed about ongoing road repair efforts to ensure safe travel in the region.
