A writ petition has been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the recent appointment of Deepak Raj Joshi as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB). The petition, submitted by Dhananjaya Regmi, who was also a candidate for the position, seeks an injunction to prevent the implementation of Joshi’s appointment.
Regmi’s petition argues that Joshi’s appointment contravenes established procedures, asserting that the selection was made using discretionary powers rather than being based on the results of the required examinations. The petition questions the legality and fairness of the process used to appoint Joshi.
The decision to appoint Joshi was made during a meeting of the NTB Board of Directors held on Thursday. Despite the legal challenge, Joshi has already assumed his new role as CEO. The Supreme Court will review the petition and decide on the next steps regarding the validity of the appointment process.
