Light snowfall has been reported in the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) region, particularly in the section above Machhapuchhre Base Camp, along the popular trekking route in Kaski district. According to Jaganras Gurung, Chairperson of the Chhomrong Tourism Management Committee, snowfall began in the area on Monday evening. He shared that the trekking route has seen a significant rise in tourist arrivals following the Tihar festival, with a notable increase in domestic trekkers compared to foreign visitors.
Increased Tourist Flow After Tihar
“The post-Tihar period has brought renewed excitement to the region’s trekking routes,” said Gurung. “Domestic tourists are showing strong interest in the Annapurna trek this year.” Despite the light snowfall, he confirmed that trekkers have not faced any major difficulties along the trail. Chief of the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), Rabin Kandel, also stated that the flow of trekkers in the Annapurna region has risen sharply since the end of Tihar.
He informed that the tourists who had reached the ABC on Monday have already descended safely, as conditions above Machhapuchhre Base Camp remain snowy. “There has been snowfall from ABC down to Machhapuchhre Base Camp, while light rainfall was recorded in lower areas. We have urged trekkers to take necessary precautions,” Kandel said.
Majority of Visitors Are Domestic
As per Dilip Gurung, Secretary of the Chhomrong Tourism Management Committee, about 80 percent of tourists visiting the Annapurna Base Camp this season are domestic travelers, while only 20 percent are foreign nationals.
He noted that the increasing participation of Nepali trekkers reflects growing domestic enthusiasm for mountain tourism, contributing to the local economy and boosting activity in the Annapurna region after the festive season.
