Local Government Focuses on Preserving Surya Kunda in Barahakshetra Municipality

Barahakshetra Municipality-1 is intensifying efforts to protect the historic Surya Kunda, a site of religious significance. Recognizing the local government’s role in safeguarding cultural heritage, the municipality has taken active measures to preserve this important landmark.

Mayor Ramesh Karki emphasized that the responsibility for protecting the historical sites of Surya Kunda extends beyond the municipality to include all sectors of society. He noted that efforts have been made to clean and maintain not only the Barahakshetra Temple but also the Auliya Math and other structures located in Barahakshetra-1.

The municipality is committed to the regular upkeep of these heritage sites and is coordinating with relevant stakeholders, including provincial and federal governments, to develop the Surya Kunda area. “Under my coordination, the preservation and cleaning committee includes Deputy Mayor Nandakumari Sunuwar, Chief Administrative Officer Ganesh Bahadur Katwal, Ward Chairpersons Kishan Magar of Barahakshetra-1 and Kapil Acharya of Barahakshetra-7, along with representatives from various wards, staff from Milan Center, Nepal Police, and municipal police,” said Mayor Karki.

The preservation and cleaning committee will ensure that these historic and religious sites are properly maintained and continue to be a source of cultural pride and tourism.
