In Bhojpur’s Pauwadungma Rural Municipality-6, the community has come together to protect and promote the historical and religious site of Kanyadaha Biskutne Hill. Recognizing the site’s historical significance, locals have taken the initiative to attract both domestic and international tourists through its preservation.
Under local leadership, the historical Kanyadaha and Mangalbare Devasthal are being actively conserved. Sugam Rai, a resident, stated that community members are working spontaneously to develop the area. He mentioned that there is a strong belief that worshipping at Kanyadaha and Mangalbare Devasthal fulfills one’s desires, and if rituals are not performed properly, adverse events could occur in the village.
Many people vow to visit this site to ensure the success of their endeavors, both domestically and internationally, according to Rai. Due to neglect, the historical and sacred site had fallen into obscurity, prompting the community to undertake its conservation and development. “This area holds great historical significance,” Rai said. “Without proper preservation, many structures here are at risk of disappearing. We are working to develop this place as both a religious and tourist site. Alongside conserving Kanyadaha, we are also engaged in tree planting.”
The Thulodumma area is home to significant religious sites such as Atabare Devasthal, Sombare Devasthal, and Mangalbare Devasthal. Various festivals and rituals are held at these sites throughout the year. The picturesque and serene tourist areas of Mangalbare Devasthal, Kanyadaha, and Biskutne Hill are undergoing reforestation efforts with the planting of trees like Dhupi, Ashok, Jamun, Mango, and Litchi, according to residents. “Thulodumma is home to three Devasthals: Atabare, Sombare, and Mangalbare,” Rai said. “Each of these religious sites has its unique significance. Due to neglect, Kanyadaha and Biskutne Hill at Mangalbare Devasthal had fallen into obscurity, prompting us to focus on their preservation.”
Harkaraj Rai, another local, mentioned that youths working abroad are sending support for the development of this area. So far, community labor and contributions from youths abroad have funded work worth around NPR 400,000. “We are working to preserve this area and make it known nationally and internationally,” he said. “The local community is actively involved in this effort, and we continue to receive support from youths abroad. Despite being away, they are contributing by sacrificing their own needs. We aim to develop and promote this area internationally.”
Locals plan to seek further support from other government bodies only after making some progress on their own. Currently, community members are working on development projects through voluntary labor.
From this area, one can enjoy stunning views of Kawa Khola Phat, Chhintang in Dhankuta district, Hatwagadhi area, Hile market, and various other places, especially when the weather is clear, according to resident Sangam Rai. He added that the natural beauty of the area is a major attraction for visitors.
