The Nepal Chamber of Commerce in Lumbini Province recently organized an in-depth discussion focused on the sustainable operation, investment opportunities, and potential of Gautam Buddha International Airport. The event, held in Bhairahawa, brought together key stakeholders including Chief Minister Chet Narayan Acharya, state ministers, and representatives from the private sector.
During the program, Chief Minister Acharya assured attendees of his commitment to work closely with the central government to ensure that the airport becomes fully operational. He emphasized the need to strengthen the provincial government and create an environment conducive to internal coordination and investment. Acharya also promised to continue efforts to enhance coordination between the province and the central government to fully utilize the potential of the airport for both tourism and economic development.
“We are committed to making Gautam Buddha International Airport fully operational and will coordinate with the central government to create an environment that promotes internal investment and development,” said Chief Minister Acharya.
Deepak Malhotra, Senior Vice President of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce, spoke about the immense investment potential of Lumbini Province, particularly in light of its rich natural resources. Malhotra emphasized that Lumbini is an ideal location for investment, offering a wealth of opportunities for businesses and industries.

Meanwhile, Tank Prasad Pokhrel, Chairman of the Lumbini Province Chamber, underscored the importance of collaboration between various stakeholders to ensure the smooth operation of Gautam Buddha International Airport. Pokhrel addressed concerns regarding the inconvenience faced by Indian tourists due to unnecessary delays at the check-in process and called for urgent action to streamline the procedures.
“The coordination between all concerned bodies is crucial for the airport’s successful operation. Additionally, we need to eliminate the check-in delays for Indian tourists, which negatively impact their experience,” Pokhrel stated.
He also emphasized the importance of attracting tourists to Lumbini by increasing investment in the province and ensuring that the region’s potential as a tourism hub is fully realized. He urged all stakeholders to unite their efforts and work towards making the Gautam Buddha International Airport a gateway for international travelers.
