According to local legend, during a severe drought in ancient times, a sage named Malyashree, who was meditating beneath the roots of Kimmu, Bar, and Simala trees in the area, prayed to the goddess Malika to relieve the suffering of all beings. Pleased with the sage’s selfless plea, the goddess appeared and created the spring to ensure the survival of life in the region. To this day, the small water pool situated in the middle of a rock is viewed as a divine blessing. Interestingly, sacrifices are not performed during the months of Shrawan and Magh, a tradition followed strictly in accordance with local religious practices.

Enhancing the tourism potential of the area, a homestay program has been launched in nearby Swara. Visitors often choose to stay overnight in the homestay after completing their visit to the temple.
