The Manakamana Cable Car, Nepal’s first cable car service, has resumed regular operation from today after a significant upgrade. Operated by Manakamana Darshan Private Limited, the cable car has transitioned from analog to advanced digital technology.
The service had been suspended since Ashadh 31 for upgrades, including the replacement of the main cable wire. After 26 years of operation using analog systems, the transition to digital technology has now been completed, according to Ujjwal Sherchan, Deputy General Manager of Manakamana Darshan Private Limited.
The upgrade was carried out under the supervision of engineers and technicians from Austria’s renowned Doppelmayr company, Sherchan added.
The Manakamana Cable Car was initially launched on Mangsir 8, 2055 B.S., to facilitate easy access for pilgrims visiting the revered Manakamana Temple, located in Sahid Lakhan Rural Municipality, Gorkha. The bottom station of the cable car is situated at Cheres, in Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality-4, Chitwan.
The upgraded cable car service aims to provide smoother, safer, and more efficient transportation for the thousands of pilgrims and tourists visiting the iconic religious site.
