Nepal’s first cable car, the Manakamana Cable Car, will be closed for 50 days starting from Ashadh 31 for an extensive upgrade of its digital system, according to an announcement by Manakamana Darshan Private Limited.
The upgrade will transition the cable car from its current analog technology to a state-of-the-art digital system with fiber optics. “This upgrade is necessary to enhance the safety and efficiency of the service,” said Ujjwal Sherchan, Deputy General Manager of Manakamana Darshan Private Limited.
In addition to the digital upgrade, the main cable will also be replaced for the first time since the cable car’s establishment 26 years ago. Skilled technicians from the Australian company Doppelmayr will be handling the upgrade work, ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety.
The Manakamana Cable Car, which began operation on Mangsir 8, 2055 BS (November 1998), serves pilgrims traveling to the famous Manakamana Temple in Sahid Lakhan Rural Municipality, Gorkha. Despite the closure of the cable car service, the restaurant at the entrance (bottom station) in Kurintar, Ichhakamana-4, Chitwan, will remain open.
Various phases of the upgrade are already underway, and Manakamana Darshan Private Limited is committed to minimizing inconvenience to pilgrims and visitors during this period.
