In a significant move to enhance tourism in Nepal, Mastercard and the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the 2024 Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai. This strategic partnership aims to connect millions of Mastercard cardholders around the world with the rich cultural heritage and diverse tourism opportunities Nepal has to offer.
The MOU was signed by Ms. Nandani Lahe Thapa, the Acting CEO of the Nepal Tourism Board, and Mr. Gautam Aggrawal, President of Mastercard India. Expressing her excitement, Ms. Lahe Thapa highlighted the potential of this collaboration to bring Nepal’s unique history, vibrant cultural diversity, and remarkable tourism experiences to a global audience.
During the same event, Mastercard unveiled new features in the MOCO digital wallet app, developed in collaboration with FOCUSONE Payment Solutions Pvt. Ltd. The updates include the integration of Mastercard card links and the acceptance of Mastercard QR transactions through MOCO’s Unified QR Code. These enhancements are designed to simplify payments for both international and national Mastercard cardholders visiting Nepal, making their travel experience more convenient.
Mastercard representatives emphasized the importance of this partnership with the Nepal Tourism Board, stating that it would create new opportunities for promoting Nepal as a top travel destination. With the support of the Nepal Tourism Board and the MOCO digital wallet, Mastercard plans to curate unique travel experiences and special offers for its global cardholders, further enriching their visit to Nepal.
