Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, emphasized the need to recognize the mother tongue as the official language at the provincial and local levels. Speaking at an event organized on Sunday to mark the establishment day of the Language Commission, Minister Pandey highlighted the importance of promoting the languages of all communities by increasing the use of official languages.
He noted that the number of recognized languages in Nepal has now reached 131, with the count steadily rising. Minister Pandey expressed concern that languages could disappear unless they are preserved in written form. “The promotion of language is crucial,” he said, “and individuals should have the opportunity to work and communicate in their mother tongue.”
Additionally, Minister Pandey announced his plans to introduce various reform programs in the Ministry to support this cause.
