Minister Pandey Emphasizes Global Promotion of Nepal’s Cultural and Natural Diversity

Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Pandey, stressed the importance of promoting Nepal’s unique natural and cultural diversity worldwide. Speaking at the 27th-anniversary celebration of the Patan Museum, Minister Pandey highlighted the need to cultivate in people a desire to visit Nepal, known as a land of open heritage and rich diversity.

“Our pride is not confined to museums alone. We have diverse landscapes, from mountains to plains, and peaks above 8,000 meters that are renowned worldwide. These assets must be introduced globally,” said Minister Pandey. He further emphasized the importance of ensuring Nepal’s airspace is safe, functional, and dynamic, noting that the ministry is actively working to uphold these standards.

Reflecting on the restoration efforts following earthquake damage, Pandey noted that newly reconstructed structures uphold Nepal’s artistic heritage, preserving cultural continuity.

Suresh Suraj Shrestha, Chief of the Cultural Division, mentioned the ongoing efforts to draft a Museum Act, aimed at organizing and integrating various museums across Nepal. Similarly, Department of Archaeology Director-General Saubhagya Pradhan praised the Patan Durbar Museum’s work in collecting, exhibiting, and safeguarding artifacts, facilitating education and research, and contributing to revenue collection.

The museum’s Executive Director, Manju Singh Bhandari, noted that due to the distinctive heritage from the Malla, Shah, and Rana periods, Patan Durbar Square earned UNESCO World Heritage status in 1979.

The event was attended by several prominent figures, including Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Chairperson of the Patan Museum Development Committee, Dr. Ganesh Prasad Pandey, House of Representatives member Udaya Shumsher Rana, Prem Bahadur Maharjan, and representatives from various Lalitpur offices.
