Minister Unveils Bold Vision: Tourism as a Catalyst for National Prosperity at Chisapani Homestay Launch

Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, emphasized the tourism sector’s potential to drive national prosperity during the inauguration of a homestay in Besisahar Municipality-2, Chisapani, today. Addressing the event, Minister Gurung outlined the government’s commitment to fostering tourism as a foundation for economic advancement.

Minister Gurung remarked that the government is actively working on strategies to develop tourism, viewing it as an essential path to economic prosperity. He underscored the importance of promoting local products and cultural heritage to attract tourists, emphasizing that homestays can play a crucial role in promoting tourism and preserving local identity.

“Homestays can create employment opportunities and help reduce poverty by bringing foreign currency into local communities,” Minister Gurung said. He further noted that the initiative could directly improve the financial status of locals. The government, he added, is prepared to support homestay operators with infrastructure development to strengthen this promising sector.

Minister Gurung, who also serves as the government spokesperson, advocated for the mechanization and commercialization of agriculture to bring prosperity to rural areas, highlighting the complementary nature of rural tourism and agricultural development.

Currently, 10 of the 49 households in Chisapani have started operating homestays, according to Min Maya Gurung, Chairperson of the Homestay Operation Management Committee. These efforts are part of a broader vision to make rural tourism a sustainable and significant contributor to Nepal’s economy.
