Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Proposes Tourism Decade Concept for 2023-2032

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, in conjunction with the Nepal Tourism Board, has launched an extensive dialogue series and consultations with key stakeholders to outline the ambitious Tourism Decade plan spanning from 2023 to 2032. Acknowledging the evolving landscape, stakeholders are actively proposing adjustments to align the plan with contemporary trends.

Sustainable tourism remains a cornerstone, with the ministry emphasizing pivotal roles in policy reform and infrastructure development.

In response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the ministry established a task force led by former Nepal Tourism Board executive director Prachanda Man Shrestha, tasked with formulating actionable strategies by the 7th of Poush, 2079 BS.

Dr. Ganesh Prasad Pandey, serving as both the ministry’s secretary and Nepal Tourism Board chairman, expressed optimism about refining the plan’s efficacy. Private sector involvement, underscored by Laxmi Bank, is crucial for ensuring sustainable tourism practices.

Ram Prasad Sapkota, Vice Chairman of the Nepal Tourism Board’s Executive Committee, highlighted the indispensable role of private sector insights in enhancing the plan. Indu Ghimire, Deputy Secretary of Ncell, affirmed that feedback from private sectors would guide forthcoming revisions. Former executive director Deepak Raj Joshi advised on pertinent adjustments to accommodate recent developments.

Maniraj Lamichhane, Director General of the Nepal Tourism Board, outlined comprehensive strategies for nationwide multi-sectoral growth and revitalization, aiming for 15% annual tourism growth by 2024 and reaching 3.5 million tourists by 2032. Moreover, plans entail creating 1 million new jobs within the tourism sector over the coming decade
