Ministry of Finance Approves Draft Bill to Separate Regulatory and Service Provider Bodies in Civil Aviation Sector

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation has received approval from the Ministry of Finance for a draft bill aimed at enhancing safety in the aviation sector by separating the regulatory body from the service provider. Following this approval, the bill has now been forwarded to the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs.

The existing Civil Aviation Act had faced criticism both nationally and internationally due to the combined role of the regulatory and service provider bodies, which compromised the effectiveness and safety standards in the aviation sector.

Since taking office, Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Minister Badri Prasad Pandey prioritized the advancement of this long-pending bill. With the approval from the Ministry of Finance, the bill will now proceed to the Cabinet before being presented to Parliament. Minister Pandey has also held discussions with former tourism ministers and other relevant stakeholders and sought public input on the proposed changes.
