The Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) has issued a weather update indicating that monsoon winds are actively influencing weather patterns across the country. As a result, Nepal is expected to witness varying intensities of rainfall in multiple provinces, especially in hilly and mountainous regions.
Widespread Impact of Monsoon Winds
Currently, monsoon winds are actively blowing across Nepal, affecting both the lowlands and high-altitude regions. The system has resulted in a mix of light to moderate rainfall, with the potential for thunder and lightning in several parts of the country. According to the Division, the monsoon pattern is likely to persist in the coming days, bringing notable changes in weather conditions.
Forecasted Rainfall in Specific Provinces
Light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur at some places in the hilly regions of Koshi Province, Bagmati Province, Gandaki Province, Lumbini Province, and Sudurpaschim Province. Alongside rainfall, thunder and lightning activities may accompany the showers, creating temporary risks such as slippery roads and landslides in vulnerable hilly areas.

For the remaining parts of the country, scattered rain showers with occasional lightning and thunder are also anticipated. The Division has urged residents and travelers in these areas to stay alert and adopt precautionary measures.
Heavy Rainfall Alert in Select Areas
More concerning is the forecast of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places within the Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces. These areas, particularly the hilly belts, are more susceptible to rainfall-induced disasters such as flash floods and landslides. The public is advised to remain cautious, especially during nighttime and early morning hours when visibility is poor, and terrain conditions may worsen due to rain accumulation. The MFD emphasizes the need for heightened preparedness in disaster-prone zones as heavy downpours could disrupt transportation, infrastructure, and normal life.
Snowfall Expected in Higher Elevations
In addition to rainfall, the Meteorological Forecasting Division has also forecast light to moderate snowfall at a few places of high-hilly and mountainous regions, particularly in northern districts of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali Provinces. This is a seasonal occurrence but poses added challenges to residents and trekkers in higher elevations.

Cold temperatures and slippery trails due to snowfall may hinder trekking activities and create safety concerns for travelers. The authorities have recommended that mountaineers and trekkers remain informed of the latest weather updates before embarking on any expedition in the mountainous zones.
Evening and Night Weather Pattern
According to the Division, the country is likely to experience partly to generally cloudy skies tonight. In particular, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected in the hilly regions and at a few places in the remaining areas. With cloud cover dominating the sky, visibility may reduce, and transportation, especially flights, could be affected temporarily in some sectors.
Precautionary Measures and Public Awareness
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has urged the public, especially those residing in vulnerable regions, to remain alert for further updates. People living near riverbanks, landslide-prone hills, and travel routes should take necessary safety measures to prevent damage and injury.
Local administrations have been asked to keep rescue teams and emergency services on standby in case of sudden natural hazards resulting from heavy rainfall or snowfall. Authorities are also calling on the public to avoid unnecessary travel to high-risk areas and closely monitor official announcements. Farmers, in particular, are advised to utilize the monsoon rainfall for agricultural activities while also preparing for the risks of excessive precipitation damaging crops.

Tourism and Transportation Cautions
The current weather may also impact tourism, particularly in trekking regions such as Annapurna, Langtang, and Manaslu circuits. Tour operators have been advised to coordinate with local weather officials and guide teams to ensure the safety of foreign and domestic trekkers.
Likewise, air travel may experience delays or cancellations, especially in remote airstrips in hilly districts like Lukla, Jomsom, and Simkot due to reduced visibility and wet runway conditions. Airlines are expected to operate with caution and adhere to flight advisories issued by aviation meteorological services.
As monsoon activity continues to influence Nepal’s weather, the likelihood of both rainfall and snowfall in various provinces requires heightened awareness and preparation. While the rains are beneficial for agriculture and water resources, the risk of natural disasters remains a key concern. The Meteorological Forecasting Division will continue to monitor the situation and provide timely updates. Citizens are encouraged to stay connected through official channels and weather bulletins to stay informed and safe during the monsoon season.
