Monsoon Winds Impacting Weather Across Nepal: Department of Hydrology and Meteorology Issues Alerts

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has reported that monsoon winds are currently affecting weather conditions across Nepal. The department noted that the monsoon’s low-pressure line remains near its average position, leading to varied rainfall patterns throughout the country.

This afternoon, light rain has been observed in some areas of Bagmati and Sudurpaschim provinces. The department forecasts generally cloudy conditions nationwide, with the possibility of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in several regions.

For tonight, the department predicts widespread cloud cover across the country, with heavy rainfall expected in parts of Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces. Over the next 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall is anticipated in one or two locations across all provinces, while heavy downpours are likely in select areas of Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.

Given the weather conditions, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has urged the public to stay vigilant. The department warned of potential impacts on agriculture, health, tourism, mountaineering, road and air transportation, and daily life in the affected regions.

In the past six hours, moderate to heavy rainfall was recorded in and around Morang and Dhankuta in Koshi Province and Lamjung in Gandaki Province. Additionally, Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Okhaldhunga, and other parts of Koshi Province; Saptari and surrounding areas in Madhes Province; Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk, and Nuwakot in Bagmati Province; Gorkha and Kaski in Gandaki Province; and several parts of Lumbini and Karnali provinces also received rainfall during this period.

The department continues to monitor the situation closely and advises people in the affected areas to take necessary precautions.
