The international hotel chain Moxy, under the globally renowned Marriott International, has officially commenced operations in Kamaladi with the opening of Moxy Kathmandu, marking the brand’s debut in Nepal. The four-star property is the first hotel in the country to operate under Marriott’s vibrant and youth-focused Moxy brand, signaling a significant shift toward lifestyle-driven hospitality in the Nepali market.
The hotel has been developed by Nepal’s MS Group, led by industrialist and hotel entrepreneur Shashikant Agrawal, who has successfully introduced the globally popular brand, well established in Europe and America, to Kathmandu. With this launch, Marriott further strengthens its footprint in Nepal, catering to evolving traveler preferences.
Designed for the New Generation of Travelers
Moxy Kathmandu is designed to appeal to young travelers, independent backpackers, digital nomads, and experience-seeking urban explorers. Known for offering a comparatively affordable yet high-energy stay, the Moxy brand prioritizes fun, social interaction, and creativity over traditional formal hospitality.

Colorful interiors, vibrant communal spaces, and a relaxed atmosphere encourage guests to connect, collaborate, and socialize. Rather than conventional front-desk formalities, Moxy emphasizes a casual, interactive guest journey that reflects the lifestyle of the new generation.
“Nepal has seen many hotel openings in recent years, but a property that combines international service standards with a youthful, fun-loving spirit was missing,” said Shashikant Agrawal, Chairman of MS Group. “That gap inspired us to bring Moxy to Kathmandu.”
World-Class Infrastructure and Investment
Moxy is currently present in 29 countries worldwide, and the Kathmandu property has been developed strictly in line with the brand’s international standards. The project represents an investment exceeding NPR 2 billion, underlining strong confidence in Nepal’s tourism and hospitality sector.
Built on approximately two ropani of land, Moxy Kathmandu features 101 guestrooms, most of which fall under the Deluxe Standard category. The rooms are smartly designed to maximize space and flexibility, featuring plush bedding, walk-in showers, 55-inch HD Smart TVs, modular furniture, motion-activated lighting, open storage concepts, and signature peg walls, hallmarks of the Moxy experience.
Lifestyle Amenities and Social Spaces
The hotel offers a range of amenities aimed at enhancing guest experience and social engagement. These include an outdoor swimming pool with a dedicated pool bar, a rooftop lounge on the 10th floor offering panoramic views of Kathmandu, and a well-equipped fitness center.

Moxy Kathmandu also boasts two distinctive in-house dining venues. LA HACIENDA offers a bold Latin American culinary experience, while CARIÑO – Terraza Latina provides a breezy open-air terrace ideal for cocktails and city views. These outlets are designed not only for hotel guests but also to attract local patrons, positioning the hotel as a lifestyle destination within the city.
Expanding Marriott’s Presence in Nepal
The opening of Moxy Kathmandu marks MS Group’s third Marriott-managed property in Kathmandu, following the Fairfield by Marriott, Thamel, and the Kathmandu Marriott Hotel, Naxal. It is also the first Moxy hotel in Nepal and the third in South Asia after Mumbai and Bengaluru.
“Moxy’s bold, playful spirit is perfectly suited for a city like Kathmandu, where tradition meets vibrant modernity,” said Kiran Andicot, Senior Vice President, South Asia, Marriott International. “As demand grows for experiences that are unconventional yet culturally connected, Moxy Kathmandu brings youthful energy that matches the city’s pace.”
Future Plans: JW Marriott in Kathmandu Valley
The inauguration of Moxy Kathmandu also served as a platform for a major future announcement. Gaurav Agrawal, Managing Director of the hotel, revealed plans to introduce the premium JW Marriott brand in the Kathmandu Valley within the next five years.

Everest Hospitality, operating under the MS Group, has committed to developing a 300-room JW Marriott, signaling a major expansion of international luxury accommodations in Nepal. Over the past decade, the group has already launched three star-rated hotels, establishing itself as a key player in the hospitality sector.
A New Energy in Kathmandu’s Hotel Scene
Located in the upscale Kamaladi area, just minutes from Durbar Marg and Thamel, Moxy Kathmandu positions itself as a lively and contemporary alternative to traditional luxury hotels. With its bold design, central location, and emphasis on social experiences, the hotel is set to attract a new generation of domestic and international guests.
The successful launch of Moxy Kathmandu not only strengthens Marriott’s presence in Nepal but also reflects growing confidence in the country’s tourism industry, paving the way for further international hospitality investments in the years ahead.
